Practical Tips For Donating Clothes
If you want to donate clothes and don’t know how, the chances are you aren’t going to donate at all! However, there are so many great reasons to donate clothes and all it takes is a little effort! I’ve put together a few simple steps that you can easily follow to do something good with those clothes you no longer wear.
What do I need to donate clothes? You need your old clothes (or accessories, jewellery, shows and so on) and some plastic bags or boxes to put them in!
What to Do Before You Donate
1) Firstly you need to sort out all of your clothes. This is probably going to be the hardest part. It’s time to be brutally honest - what doesn’t fit you? What do you never wear? What don’t you like? What have you NEVER worn? Is anyone going to be able to benefit from these clothes? The answer is almost certainly YES! So put them to good use by donating.
2) Now you need to get your clothes ready for donation. You could just give them how they are, but if you are really self conscious and eco friendly then you should be nice! Clean up anything that’s dirty, you can wipe shoes down, wash your clothes and so on. It just makes the job a little easier for all of the volunteers who are going to be sorting the clothes out.
3) It’s now time to pack your clothes. Try folding them nicely in your bag or box, ready to be donated.
Now You’re Ready to Donate
There are a number of ways of donating clothes that you’ve so lovingly prepared:
Clothing Bins - These are a convenient option, found on high streets, at supermarkets and more. All you need to do is pop the bag of clothes through the right hole (a box probably won’t do).
Charity Shops - A very common and popular option, as this lets you choose the individual cause that you wish to support. Don’t just leave the clothes outside of the door, walk in and hand them to the volunteer to ensure they stay in good condition.
Online - Yes, the internet is now providing a solution to everything. Just do a quick search and you’ll find loads of places that can help you be more eco conscious.
